How to use Botanicals
- Rinse botanicals in warm water to remove dust or debris.
- Optional: Boil or soak to help them sink and reduce tannins.
- Place them into your aquarium as desired - grouped or scattered.
- Over time, they'll soften, release tannins, and grow biofilm.
- Replace as they naturally decompose or as needed.

Botanical Use Guide

Alder Cones - Alnus sp.
Moderate tannins, 1-3 cones per 5g/20l. Breakdown quickly, replenish biweekly.
Lotus Pod - Nelumbo nucifera
Light tannins, 1 lotus pod per 5g/20l. Breakdown slowly, replenish every 6-8 weeks.
Savu Pod - Cariniana sp.
Light tannins, 1 pod per 5g/20l. Breakdown slowly, lasts a very long time.
Coco Caps - Petals - Cocos nucifera
Moderate tannins, 1 cap per 5g/20l. Breakdown medium, replenish monthly.
Magnolia Bark - Magnolia sp.
Light tannins, 1-2g of bark per 5g/20l. Breakdown quickly, replenish 2-4 weeks.
Cholla Wood - Cylindropuntia sp.
Light tannins, 1 cholla per 5g/20l. Breakdown medium, replenish 6-8 weeks
Catappa Leaves - Terminalia sp.
Moderate tannins, 1-2 leaves per 5g/20l. Breakdown quickly, replenish biweekly.
